Where are you?

We are always asked this question and after you reply you know if you are talking to a fellow driver or not.

The fellow driver will usually say oh are you at? and name off ALL of the trucks stops in the local area and sometimes a Wal-Mart or local place you can park and while they are at it name off the mile markers.

The non - driver will often say oh I love that city, and name of local points of interest that you will probably never see or you are no where close to. We sometimes get to SEE some of these places as we have carried high value loads that go to museums, traveling exhibits, or to upscale businesses. But do we stay? No as there is usually no room for us to park or huge signs saying NO TRUCKS. Love those signs. See is the key word here as we SEE those places as we drive by.

We have rented a car a couple of times and went and actually visited local points of interest and we probably should do it more often. We often find we do not have the time or we have housekeeping duties we need to get caught up on.

Our mind set is also funny as when the wheels are turning we are making money and when sitting nope no money! Try to explain that to all of the various panhandlers that knock on the door. So for us to go sight seeing means we might have to turn down a load making money. When the situation is right we do get out and see but in reality that does not happen often.

We have found the longer we do this the smaller the United States and Canada have become. It is great fun to talk with other drivers and discuss places to sit that are 4000 miles apart but you have been there, done that and have the t-shirt! What an awesome way of life we have.

So for us we will continue to "SEE" things as we go on by and keep the wheels turning!

  1. Very similar story for me. Folks always comment that I must get to see all types of things while traveling on business. Like truckers, I usually have business to attend to, might eat at a decent place. Other than that it's hotel rooms, business, rental cars and airports.

  2. this is so true!!...i keep a little running list of stuff that i want to "go back" to...lol....it seems that there's either no time or no place to get a truck into...get's really frustrating sometimes.....but then it balances out with each time you do get to stop, each glimpse of the ocean, each view from cabbage, or at the top of the mountain coming down 15 into vegas at night....

  3. LOL wow to hear another person that like the view from Cabbage! I love that area of the country. There are so many areas of the country that just take your breath away.

Frank I am sure that is true also I forget to think of that as you have a car. Forget that you have a time issue also.
